Number of Papers published in peer-reviewed journals: Number of Papers published in non peer-reviewed journals: Final Report: Acquisition of a Thermophoresis Instrument for Molecular Association Thermodynamic Studies Report Title Funding from the Department of the Army, with matching funds from the University of California, Riverside, was used for the acquisition of a microscale thermophoresis instrument. This instrument is used to quantify biomolecular interactions by measuring binding affinities. We provide examples from the use of thermophoresis measurements in research projects. Spectroscopic, Thermodynamic and Molecular Docking Studies on Interaction of Toxic Azo Dye with Bovine Serum Albumin

Investigation on interaction of azo dyes with bovine serum albumin as carrier protein will be important in the field of toxicology because of distribution and transportation of dyes in blood. In this regard, the interaction between the azo dye, trisodium (4E)-3-oxo-4-[(4- sulfonato-1- naphthyl) hydrazono] naphthalene-2,7-disulfonate (C20H11N2Na3O10S3), known as Amaranth and bovine serum albumin...

Analysis of Molecular Interactions Using the Thermophoresis Method and its Applications in Neuroscience and Biological Processes

Introduction: Molecular interactions play an important role in the phenomenon and biological processes. In fact, any cellular biological process ranged from genetic replication to the production of various proteins to the transmission of neurological, hormonal, membrane involves collections of molecular interactions that occur continuously. Interference in each of these processes at every stage...

Molecular interaction studies using microscale thermophoresis.

Abstract The use of infrared laser sources for creation of localized temperature fields has opened new possibilities for basic research and drug discovery. A recently developed technology, Microscale Thermophoresis (MST), uses this temperature field to perform biomolecular interaction studies. Thermophoresis, the motion of molecules in temperature fields, is very sensitive to changes in size, c...

Thermodynamic characterization of DNA hybridization

Here we report a thermodynamic analysis of biomolecular interactions using MicroScale Thermophoresis (MST). Using DNA hybridization with fluorescently labeled oligonucleotides as a well-characterized model system, we monitor the shift in the dissociation (Kd) constant of the interaction over a range of temperatures and calculate the free enthalpy (ΔH) and entropy (ΔS) for the hybridization reac...

Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms and Association Studies: A Few Critical Points

Uncovering DNA sequence variations that correlate with phenotypic changes, e.g., diseases, is the aim of sequence variation studies. Common types sequence variations are Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP, pronounced snip).SNPs are the third-generation molecular marker. SNP represents a DNA sequence variant of a single base pair with the minor allele occurring in more than 1% of a given popula...
